Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal Constitution: Former Hawks player Dikembe Mutombo has met with a group of investors about joining their bid to buy the Atlanta Hawks. The group, which is made up in part of Atlanta businessmen, has begun the preliminary work to get involved in the process. Talks are ongoing. The group may also consist of other former NBA players. They hope to meet with the NBA commissioner’s office in the near future. Mutombo, from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, played five seasons for the Hawks from 1996-2001 where he twice won the Defensive Player of the Year award. Currently, the controlling interest of 50.1 percent of the Hawks is for sale. Controlling owner Bruce Levenson announced his intention to sell his stake in the franchise after the discovery of a racially inflammatory e-mail he wrote in 2012.
Jared Johnson of Bleacher Report: The Atlanta Hawks have been through a tumultuous offseason. This summer, general manager Danny Ferry and owner Bruce Levenson were both caught making racist remarks on separate occasions. Ferry is now on indefinite leave from the team, and you can stick a “former” in front of Levenson’s name because he sold his share in the team. But it’s time for the team to focus on basketball. Despite the distractions, the Hawks will be a competitive team in 2014-15 for a variety of reasons: star center Al Horford is back, the team made some minor adjustments to its roster and head coach Mike Budenholzer is quickly becoming one of the NBA’s better coaches.
Associated Press: Andre Drummond had 19 points and 14 rebounds to help the Detroit Pistons beat the Atlanta Hawks 104-100 on Saturday night in an exhibition game. Brandon Jennings added 16 points and 11 assists for Detroit (4-2). Kyle Singler scored 15 points, and Josh Smith and D.J. Augustin each had 14. Jeff Teague had 16 points and 10 assists to lead the Hawks (2-3). Kyle Korver scored 15 points, going 3 of 7 from 3-point range, and DeMarre Carroll added 14. The Pistons were coming off a loss in Orlando on Friday night.
