Daily Hawks News (12.27.14)

Bo Churney of Hawks Hoop: “The Hawks’ five-game winning streak came to an end on Friday night when Jason Kidd’s Bucks team came into Philips Arena and laid down a whoopin’, beating down Atlanta by a final score of 107-77. The first quarter was a hotly contested quarter that saw Adreian Payne make his NBA debut. After a nice driving layup by Dennis Schröder, Jerryd Bayless responded with a 3-pointer to give Milwaukee a 24-22 lead after 12 minutes. The Bucks then came out with supreme defensive pressure in the second quarter, forcing a myriad of turnovers from the Hawks’ offense. Kidd and Milwaukee schemed well, as they used their length and athleticism to quickly double and make the Hawks panic with the ball. This led to forced passes by the Hawks, which often ended up going the other way for Milwaukee buckets.”

ESPN.com: “ATLANTA — Jared Dudley’s shooting was perfect, even if his coach wouldn’t quite say his game was. Dudley made all 10 shots, including four 3-pointers, and scored a season-high 24 points Friday night to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a 107-77 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. Dudley matched Brooklyn’s Jarrett Jack for the best-shooting night in the NBA this season. “I can’t say it was a perfect game because as a coach you always want more, but it was as close to a no-hitter as you can come to,” Bucks coach Jason Kidd. “I thought he was great tonight on both ends.”

Brad Rowland of Peachtree Hoops: “Ugly nights happen in the NBA, and sadly, Friday night was that and more for the Atlanta Hawks. The team sputtered on all accounts, and when the 48-minute game came to a close, the Hawks were on the wrong end of the score by a final of 107-77. Offense was prevalent on both sides in the opening minutes, with the two teams combining for 27 points in just over 3 minutes of clock time. However, that would quickly slow, especially on the side of Atlanta. The Hawks simply could not convert on jump shots in the early going, making only 1 of their first 8 from beyond the arc with two additional mid-range misses from Al Horford, and that led to a rough period offensively.”
