The secondary ticket market rarely sees a team like the Atlanta Hawks trending for nearly an entire basketball season, but that was the case last year as they were nearly atop every opponent’s list on the most sought-after tickets of the season, alongside the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors.
And it was completely reasonable, as the Hawks turned in one of the most successful seasons in their franchise’s history that led to the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs before getting eliminated in the Eastern Conference Finals by the Cavaliers.
This season will be slightly different, however, as a key member of the team’s starting five departed in free agency. DeMarre Carroll signed a four-year, $60 million deal with the Toronto Raptors and the Hawks had to also worry about Paul Millsap packing his bags and leaving, before agreeing on an extension and return to Atlanta.
The Hawks will try and replace Carroll’s production with Tim Hardaway Jr., whom the team acquired from a draft day trade with the New York Knicks and Washington Wizards.
Atlanta plays on the opening night of the NBA season in three weeks, hosting the Detroit Pistons at Philips Arena on October 27. According to SeatSmart.com, Atlanta Hawks tickets have an average price of $98.22 and a get-in price of $21 on the secondary market. Fans going to the home opener can use ParkWhiz.com for Atlanta parking, which starts from $12 and puts fans within a half-mile of the arena.
As NBA fans may expect, the Hawks’ most expensive games are against the Warriors and Cavaliers. Their priciest game is on March 1 at Oracle Arena against the defending champs with an average ticket price of $752.85 and a get-in price of $63. The game against the Cavaliers on April 1, meanwhile, is at home at Philips Arena, having an average price of $374.15 and a get-in price of $92. The Hawks’ next most expensive contest is also at home against the Warriors on February 22, with games against the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls trailing right behind.
Expecting another No. 1 seed may be unrealistic for Atlanta this season, but they are definitely a contender for the NBA title and will definitely be in the playoffs unless there are bizarre, unforeseen circumstances. After Mike Budenholzer won last season’s Coach of the Year award, it’ll be interesting to see how he can improve upon a historic season for the Atlanta Hawks franchise.
