DeMarco Williams of SLAM: “Babies couldn’t care less about editorial deadlines. Well, Kyle Korver’s baby couldn’t. SLAM had been trying to score an interview with the Atlanta Hawks shooting guard for some time, but the team’s media relations department could never commit to a day because Korver’s wife, Juliet, was expecting to give birth to their second child at any moment. Just when we were about to indefinitely postpone the story about the deadeye shooter on the cusp of national stardom, the Hawks suggested we try our luck at the team’s media day. Not a bad idea. Newborns don’t typically disrupt interviews in the practice gym, do they?”
From Hawks.com: “The Atlanta Hawks and iHeartMedia are collaborating to broadcast eight Hawks games on local Spanish language station El PatrÓn 105.3 FM this season, it was announced today. The ground-breaking news marks the first time Hawks contests will be aired completely in Spanish by an Atlanta radio outlet. “We are thrilled to enter a partnership with iHeartMedia and El PatrÓn 105.3,” said Hawks CEO Steve Koonin. “This collaboration presents exciting new opportunities for us to further engage the diverse, multicultural population of our great city. Broadcasting our games in Spanish is important for our organization as we continue to build bridges through basketball and connect with our community.”
Brad Rowland of Peachtree Hoops: “The the backdrop of a season-long, seven-game winning streak, the Atlanta Hawks entered Wednesday night with a considerable amount of momentum. That momentum did not necessarily push the team to an outstanding performance, but Atlanta did more than enough to outlast the hapless Philadelphia 76ers by a final score of 95-79. The Hawks began the night with a mini-flourish, and to be blunt, it felt like Atlanta could run away and hide in the early going. Atlanta scored the first seven points, while forcing Philly into three straight empty (and ugly) possessions, and things were off to a strong start.”
